Freshmen go into their first year of high school with little to no information about what to expect. Many kids don’t have siblings attending the upper school so it can be a challenge to figure out the in’s and out’s of high school. It’s not necessarily the classes that freshman get so worried about, it’s not always about making friends, but it’s the “unwritten rules” that they need to know. It would be wiser to have the school year last the whole year. Breaks would be more frequent and longer to compensate for the loss of the three summer months, but this way students would constantly be in the educational mindset, which would help them learn better, more, and faster. “If they’re just going to be hanging around at home playing video games,” says DiNardo, “it would be better for them to be in school.”

The internet has innumerable uses and functions that can make everyday life easier. From social networking to school work, general browsing to searching for answers, the web is a priceless tool. One of the more common uses for the internet though is downloading music. Legally or illegally, people of all ages realize that getting the music online is simple, quick and easy. The problem arises when illegally downloading music is equally easy, if not more so.

“The thing that most influenced my decision to go into education was the summer I worked as an aide in the Roseville Summer Band program. I was given a group of students to teach and was amazed at the progress they made in such a short time. It was fun to see the growth and excitement in the students,” said new principal, Bruce Maeda.

New editions to the Minnehaha family this fall are Maeda and Vice Principal Janet Gulden. They are in charge of both the Lower and Middle schools at South Campus and Bloomington Campus.

Dangers of energy drinks

Many teens use energy drinks on a daily basis, but these drinks have a detrimental effect on long-term health if used frequently. “Generally sugar taken in the high amounts found in energy drinks can cause addiction,” said Andrea Jensen, a certified personal trainer and team nutrition coach at Lifetime Fitness. “It also affects your blood sugar levels, increasing your insulin, which is a precursor to diabetes.”
